El extraordinario Sidney's Candy abrio la temporada de Santa Anita con su renovada pista de arcilla y arena (en lugar del polytrack) para ganar con absoluta solvencia el Sir Beaufort Stakes de 150 mil dolares, demostrando calidad y clase como buen hijo del campeon argentino Candy Ride. Fue conducido por Joel Rosario. La carrera fue en 1.600 metros, y se corrio el Domingo 26 de Diciembre de 2010.

El Preakness Stakes se mantendra en su sede actual, tras acuerdo

La comisión de carreras hípicas de Maryland aprobó el miércoles un acuerdo que permitirá que el Preakness Stakes, una tradición del estado y la segunda competencia de la Triple Corona, siga realizándose en Baltimore.

 

La comisión votó por 5-0 en favor del acuerdo alcanzado más temprano por los representantes de las carreras hípicas y la administración del gobernador Martin O'Malley, en Annapolis. El acuerdo contempla 146 días de carreras en los hipódromos del estado.

 

El acuerdo dará un nuevo destino a cerca de 3,5 y 4 millones de dólares en ingresos por máquinas tragamonedas, y reservará dinero para mejoras en los hipódromos, a fin de bajar los costos de operación. Esa parte del acuerdo requerirá de la aprobación de los legisladores en el presupuesto.

 

Los criadores y dueños de caballos aportarán además 1,7 millones de dólares.

 

Louis Ulman, presidente de la junta de la comisión, dijo que el acuerdo negociado el miércoles por la mañana eliminó varios obstáculos que hubieran obligado a abreviar el calendario de carreras para el año próximo.

 

"Garantiza 146 días de carreras y preserva 10.000 empleos en el estado de Maryland", dijo Ulman sobre la votación.

 

Las carreras se reanudarían el 1 de enero.

The Ten Commandments of Good Horse Racing Systems

Part 1

One of the men who has most made a study of Horse Racing Systems is Nick Mordin, racing journalist and writer.  From his studies he came up with this helpful summary of the features of a good race betting system.

I've split up this advice onto different pages to make it more likely you will think carefully about each condition when considering the value of systems you are presented with.  I don't claim that all of our systems will fit all these criteria.  I don't have all the answers but I aim to give you a variety of views to help you make up your own mind.

1)  The goal of a system should be not to pick winners but to identify a type of horse that the betting public consistently underrates.

You can waste a great deal of time studying the form book simply to find rules that suggest a horse may be a likely winner.  Just because you pick a winner does not mean that betting will be profitable in the long term.  If a great proportion of the betting public can also see that this is a winner then the odds you can obtain will be very low.  The objective of the professional bettor should be to find horses that are UNDERVALUED by the general public.  Betting consistenly on horses whose chances of winning are greater than their bookmaker odds suggest will bring profits over the medium to longer term.  Only when you have found errors in the thinking of the market as a whole should you turn to the form book to see if you can profitably exploit this.

 

2)  The best systems are based on facts that defy most punters' expectations.

If you remember that you are essentially betting against other punters (both in a bookies and on betting exchanges) then you should realise that if you bet on the same things that they do you cannot hope to succeed in the long term.

Try to find facts that defy the expectations of most punters.  (For example only: - well bred horses win less often than poorly bred ones in low class races; horses win less often in first-time blinkers; etc...)

The reaction of a common punter when you explain your system should not be "That's clever" but rather "That sounds like rubbish - I can't se that!".  Only you should know different.

 

3)  Be suspicious of a system that is based on information that can easily be gleaned from any daily newspaper.

It is difficult to base an esoteric system on information that is straight out of the Racing Post.  This info is pinned up on the walls of every betting shop in the country and forms the basis of most punters' selection processes.  Systems based on more difficult to come by information such as physical appearance, gallop reports, pedigree analysis and trainer patterns are more likely to bring results.

 

HELPFUL HINTS FOR USING THE INSIDER PICKS AND POWER PLAYS by Les Instone

As more sophisticated, disciplined handicappers know - there is no short-cut to good handicapping. There is no single handicapping factor that you can look at and say "this is the winner right here". Instead, there are many factors to consider when handicapping and it's the ones you don't use or don't know how to use, that can beat you at the race track.

INSIDER PICKS AND POWER PLAYS from BRIS provides many handicapping factors that the general public doesn't have access to. Using these factors effectively will give the user an advantage over your competition - other bettors.

The factors or "angles" in INSIDER PICKS AND POWER PLAYS are:

• Blue Chip Trainer Plays
• Sharp and Ready Runners
• Hot Trainers
• Hot Jockeys
• Hot Trainer/Jockey Combos
• Exiting a Key Race
• Ship-In Trainer
• Clocker Specials
• Horses For Courses
• Distance Specialists

Look down the right side of the page under the caption "Power Play Angles". You will see the angles for the horses in each race. Let's look at the angles and what they mean and how to use them effectively.

"BLUE CHIP TRAINER PLAYS" means this trainer is very strong at a handicapping angle which is detailed in the next section of the INSIDER PICKS AND POWER PLAYS. These point out the fact this trainer wins a high percentage under certain conditions with his runners. These may include

Debut MdnSpWt (Maiden Special Weights),

2nd career start,

31-90 days away (layoff),

90+ days away,

route to sprint,

dirt to turf,

1st at route,

beaten favorite,

down one class,

winner last race,

shipper, etc.

You MUST recognize that trainers have strengths and weaknesses and knowing those strengths and weaknesses can make quite a bit of difference. Some trainers may win 17% of their overall starts but may be 3% with horses going a route for the first time. Another trainer may be below average overall winning only 7% of his total starts but may hit with 23% debut runners (1st time starters). These specific trainer angles are very lucrative giving YOU a big edge.

"SHARP AND READY" horses in today highlight any horse that has a significant BRIS speed and BRIS class advantage over the others in this field. These horses should stand out but at times can offer good value when overlooked by John Q. Public who doesn't have this information.

"HOT TRAINERS" points out trainers who have been doing very well during the last 14 days while "HOT JOCKEYS" highlights hot riders in the last 7 days (jockeys have more mounts than trainers have horses entered). "HOT TRAINER/JOCKEY COMBOS" also looks at the last 14 days. This last particular stat is crucial because some trainers will use certain jockeys when they have a better shot at winning and give other riders the mount as a favor or payback maybe for exercising horses in the morning or some other reason. But when a horse is well-intended to win, you'll see a high percentage for the trainer/jockey combo (10-12% would be just average).

"EXITING A KEY RACE" lets you know that two or more horses from this runner's previous race have already come back to win their next start. A "possible" key race indicates only one other runner from that previous race has come back to win so far. When several horses come back to win, that is a clear indicator that the previous race was very tough. A horse that finished 5th in a "key race" may actually be better than a horse that was second in a race where no other horses have come out of that race to win their next start. Check the BRIS Race Ratings on the Ultimate Past Performances to see whether this horse was above or near the Race Ratings of other horses in today's race.

"SHIP-IN TRAINER" highlights trainers that have already won at this meet with a "ship-in" horse and have a similar shipper entered in today's race. Some trainers do better than others when shipping in to a particular track. Watch for trainers that ship in to run against lesser competition in an effort to steal this race.

"CLOCKER SPECIALS" lists the fastest workouts in the last 7 days for horses running today. One stat not available anywhere else ranks the horses within their age group for this distance over the last 7 days. A 3-year-old may have had the third fastest work at 4 furlongs on a given day but that work could have been the fastest by any 3-year-old in the last 7 days. How else would you know this information?

"HORSES FOR COURSES" points out horses that have done especially well over this track and surface. Some horses just run better at certain tracks or over certain turf courses. And it's important to recognize that especially if it has been a long time since the last meet at this track. If this horse has not been doing well at another track, he could be rejuvenated when he steps foot over this surface.

"DISTANCE SPECIALISTS" are horses that have run especially well at this distance. Just as some horses like certain tracks, some horses love certain distances. Some horses can do great at 7 furlongs but can't win going 6 furlongs or a mile. If you see a horse that is a "Horse for the Course" and a "Distance Specialist" - you have found a very strong contender in this race.

Let's go back and look at the selections at the top of each race. The "Top 3" choices are computer-generated based on many factors including the INSIDER PICKS AND POWER PLAYS angles. These comprehensive selections are the top three horses to look at when you are handicapping today's race. The "Speed" selections ranks the top three based on recent BRIS speed figures. The BRIS Class rating determines the top 3 "Class" selections. And the top 3 "Pace" selections reflect runners with the fastest BRIS early pace ratings. These BRIS pace, speed and class ratings can be found in the Ultimate Past Performances.

The "Detailed" version of the INSIDER PICKS AND POWER PLAYS is just that - more detailed. For instance on the "Shipper Stats", it will detail a short list of trainers and their record with ship-ins and where they shipped from. Also see if the additional details for "Hot Trainers" and "Blue Chip Plays" will help you in uncovering that extra information that will help you do better at the track.

XIN XU LIN gana el Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini 11/12/2010

XIN XU LIN se llevó el trofeo del “CARLOS PELLEGRINI” a Brasil Por: Enrique Salazar

Después de 7 años los brasileros vuelven a vencer en el más importante clásico de la región. 

Esta es la prueba de mayor trascendencia en América del Sur, la carrera que todos anhelan ganar en este lado de nuestro continente. Corrida en homenaje a Carlos Enrique José Pellegrini, fundador del Jockey Club Argentino en 1882 y Presidente del mismo en 3 mandatos distintos, este clásico se corre desde 1887. Con muchos cambios y modificaciones hasta llegar a lo que es ahora, el "Pellegrini" siempre ha sido la carrera preferida de los argentinos. Por algo, la ganó 10 veces el grande Ireneo Leguisamo.

Así que el ambiente festivo y la tensión eran obvias en San Isidro para la disputa de la 75a versión del Gran Premio Internacional Carlos Pellegrini (G1, 2400 mts, grama, $325.500), por mucho, la prueba mejor rentada del hipismo argentino. Programada como la 13a carrera de un programa de 16 competencias, la prueba se disputaba con 1 carrera de intermedio después del Clásico Joaquín S. de Anchorena (G1), lo cual aseguraba alto nivel de adrenalina entre los presentes. Los 2 jinetes activos con más triunfos en la prueba, Pablo Falero y Edwin Talaverano, ambos con 4 victorias, estaban en la nómina de participantes. Entre los caballos, Life of Victory (02, Incurable Optimist en La Gran Portada, por Hidden Prize), ganador de la versión 2008, buscaba la gloria de repetir en la prueba y convertirse en el 10° ejemplar con dicho logro.

Que los desfiles se vieran afectados por la fuerte lluvia de horas tempranas no mitigó para nada la emoción del público para recibir los bailes y celebraciones anteriores al clásico que todos fueron a ver. La celebración con bailarinas, payasos y desfiles, con banda militar y tambores incluídos, animaron a los presentes por una 1/2 hora al menos. Los jinetes participantes hicieron su acostumbrada parada ante las tribunas precediendo las notas del himno nacional argentino, coreado por la multitud en pleno. La escena quedó servida para una carrera sin igual. El favoritismo era copado por Fuego E Hierro (06, Pure Prize en Fusillette, por Candy Stripes), monta del brasileño Jorge Ricardo, y el brasileño Xin Xu Lin (07, Wondertross en Barbiera, por Pleasant Variety), que buscaba el primer triunfo brasileño desde 2003, cuando venció Gorylla (97. New Colony en Steffi, por Ahmad).

Con una fantástica actuación, inimaginable ante el lote de 19 participantes de alta categoría, el brasileño Xin Xu Lin se impuso de punta a punta en el Gran Premio Internacional Carlos Pellegrini (G1), demostrando una afinidad extraordinaria a la pista mojada. El zaino, que condujo el brasilero Antonio Correia Da Silva y entrena Estanislau Petrochinski, dominó todos y cada uno de los tramos de la prueba, sacó practicamente desde la largada 2 cuerpos de ventaja sobre sus rivales, los mismos que mantuviera al momento de cruzar la meta. Dejando parciales cómodos de 24″ (400 mts) y 49″ (800 mts), Xin Xu Lin se desplazó fácil en punta, mientras su jinete miraba atrás para controlar la acción de Safari River (07, Lode en Safari Girl, por Lode), que comenzó a presionarle desde la 1ra media milla. En adelante, el brasileño corrió con dicho rival al costado, mientras el resto de grupo se mantenía a 2 cuerpos atrás. Pasando 76″ (1200 mts) y 101-3/5 (1600 mts), Xin Xu Lin mantenía a raya a Safari River, convertido en duro contendor, mientras desde el fondo se veía a todos hacer intentos por acortar la ventaja de los punteros.

En plena recta final, la larga recta final de San Isidro, Safari River daba el todo por el todo, tratando de quebrar al brasileño Xin Xu Lin, que parecía llevar una bombona de aire, pues corría siempre lo suficiente para mantenerse en punta. Pisando terrenos de los 200 mts finales, Xin Xu Lin dominó en definitiva a Safari River, pero surgió violento en remate el favorito Fuego E Hierro. Éste logró emparejarse a los punteros, pero castigado por Correia Da Silva el "negro" de Brasil se despegó con soltura y logró colocar 2 cuerpos, cruzando el disco ganador, concretando una victoria alucinante. Fuego E Hierro se quedó con el 3er lugar, superado por tan sólo 3/4 cuerpo, mientras el también nacido en Brasil, Send Inthe Clown (06, Know Heights en Heavenly Dancer, por Fitzcarraldo) se quedaba con el placé en remate final, para conformar un arrase brasileño. El tordillo Es Corino, el conducido de Talaverano, arribó 5°superado por Malhechor Int (07, Gradepoint en Vendimia Pin, por Lt Pinkerton), mientras que Safari River cerraba la pizarra de San Isidro, ubicándose en el 6° lugar.

Los ganadores, propietarios, jinete y entrenador, fueron ovacionados por las tribunas, momentos después de la premiación, mientras cruzaban la pista de grama subidos a una hermosísima carroza guiada por 4 caballos blancos y escoltada por hombres a caballo, mientras se escuchaba sonar los acordes de "We Are The Champions", la famosísima canción que popularizara el inolvidable grupo Queens. Una ceremonia espectacular que jamás olvidarán ni ellos, los ganadores, ni todos quienes fueron testigos presenciales de ello.

Xin Xu Lin se convierte en el 5° ejemplar brasilero que triunfa en la historia del "Pellegrini". El primer brasileño en vencer en esta prueba fue Escorial (55, Orsénigo en Escoa, por British Empire), ganador en 1959, que luego sería emulado por Immensity (80, Zenabre en Monyaguá, por Montmartre) en 1983, por Much Better (89, Baynoun en Charming Doll, por Brac) en 1994 y por el citado Gorylla en 2003.

Triple ganador clásico G1 en su natal Brasil, Xin Xu Lin ha logrado hasta ahora 5 victorias en campaña de 7 actuaciones, incluida esta imponente victoria, consagratoria en su caso. El brasileño llegó a la carrera tras vencer en el Gran Premio Derby Paulista (G1, 2400 mts), prueba que transitó en idéntico estilo que en el "Pellegrini", de punta a punta. El zaino suma además 2 triunfos clásicos sobre la milla, al vencer en el Gran Premio Ipiranga (G1) y en el Gran Premio Juliano Martins (G1). Sus únicas 2 derrotas son un 3er lugar en el Gran Premio Jockey Club de Sao Paulo (G1, 2000 mts) y un 4° lugar en el Gran Premio Adhemar de Almeida Prado (G1, 1600 mts). Un fuera de serie, sin dudas.

Xin Xu Lin presenta un pedigree libre de repeticiones en sus primeras 4 generaciones, pero al avanzar hasta la 6ta generación destaca la repetición en linebred del Jefe de Raza T V Lark (57-75, Indian Hemp en Miss Larksfly, por Heelfly), Campeón Gramero en EUA(1961) y Líder Semental en EUA (1974). Ganador de 19 carreras, T V Lark obtuvo victorias clásicas a los 2, 3 y 4 años, produciendo dividendos por $902.194.
